Dead Space 2 Online Multiplayer

It was somewhat startling to fans when it was announced that Dead Space 2 would have an online multiplayer component.  Perhaps it shouldn’t have been though, as Visceral Games executive producer Steve Papoutsis says that it was the most requested feature addition for Dead Space 2.

The game’s multiplayer will feature 4v4 objective based combat, with the humans taking on the Necromorphs.  Papoutsis says that in addition to allowing players to play the game together, both together and against each other, multiplayer also gives them a chance to experience the battle from the other side as a Necromorph.

Papoutsis stressed that multiplayer has been something that has been actively worked on since the beginning of the game, and is not just a quick cash-in added late in the development cycle.  He also assures Dead Space fans that the addition of multiplayer will not negatively affect the single player game in any way, as a separate part of the team will be working on it exclusively, and begs fans to give it a chance before writing it off without trying it.

The game will feature only competitive multiplayer, and will not feature a co-op campaign or any horde type mode.  While a horde type mode may seem like a good fit for Dead Space 2 online multiplayer, you know, with all the monsters and everything, Papoutsis says that the main focus of multiplayer was giving people a chance to play as the Necromorphs.
